Asbestos Workers and Insulators Local Union 72

Local 72 covers 55 counties in North Carolina from the VA. line to the Coast and 5 counties in South Carolina below Charlotte. If union insulation work is not available in N.C. then the Business Manager shall do all in his power to find you a job somewhere in the country if that is what you ask of him. We all need Medical Coverage this day and time and we should all be able to retire with our pension and not depend on Social Security for the way it is going most people will be 62 to 67 or higher before they can draw there checks. With us you can retire at the age of 55 while you are still able to enjoy life.

Wages / Benefits
Wage rates as of March 1, 2005 until February 28, 2006 for Mechanics - $18.70 per hr. plus $30.00 a day per-diem for Industrial work, $15.00 per hr. plus $30.00 a day per-diem for Commercial work.
Mechanics Coverage is as follows:
Medical coverage for the Mechanic and Whole Family which are paid by Employer
Pension plan for the Mechanic which are paid by the Employer of a rate of $2.70 per hr. at the current rate a member with 30 yrs of service would draw a pension check for the rest of his or her life for around $3,296.70 but the Mechanic has to be 55 years of age to receive his or her pension.
Apprentice Coverage is as follows:
Medical coverage for the Apprentice and there whole family which are paid by the Employer
Pension plan for Apprentice which are paid by the Employer of a rate of $.50 cent per hour until Apprentice becomes a Mechanic and at such time He or She shall receive the Rate of $2.70 per hour until Retirement.

Apprenticeships
We have a four-year apprenticeship program. Rates of pay and guidelines are as follows:
Wage rates are 60, 70, 80, 90 percent of the Mechanic's rate based on their proof of experience plus $30.00 a day per-diem. Each Apprentice is under a 500 hr. Probationary Period. Each Apprentice is required to attend Apprenticeship Class with at least 144 classroom hrs. per year. The Apprenticeship Program is indentured with the North Carolina Department of Labor Apprenticeship and Training Bureau. After all On The Job Training Hrs. and Classroom Hrs. are met, each Apprentice shall receive a certificate from the Apprenticeship Program and then shall become a Mechanic.
